Diario intimo by H. Amiel was torn between living an introverted, mystical-philosophical life and a outward, productive one. Too dark and depressing for me especially struggling with my own issues at the time.
He does have quite a few critiques of his contemporary writers mostly Genevese, French and German and most of whom I have never heard of and obviously have not read. I will probably re-read it, or at least the Reading this book took months, yet it only has pages!
